Station 1 Long Range Planning

GVFRS has outgrown our Main Street Station, Station 1, which can no longer properly support the needed equipment and personnel.  GVFRS has been working for nearly two years to develop options to meet the needs of the department and the community for at least the next 50 years.

You can track our progress on our Long Range Planning pages.

Last night, 27 members of Gloucester and Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue received training on 12 Lead EKGs and Acute Coronary Syndrome (heart attacks) by Dr. Chu, an Interventional Cardiologist from Riverside Regional Medical Center. This was part of our monthly EMS training program. Our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) have been trained for years to collect 12 Lead EKGs and transmit them directly to the appropriate hospital. Last night’s training gave us perspective on how those EKGs are used in the hospital to prepare for the patient, how they are interpreted, and the importance of taking a few extra seconds to collect a high-quality EKG.GVFRS would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Chu, RRMC, and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for providing this training. Unless otherwise noted, all of our EMS training is available to the public and advertised on our website. If you would like to become a part of our organization as either an EMT or a firefighter, please visit our website at www.gvfrs.org/join. ...
